Paris Jackson and Bella Thorne's new movie Habit is causing quite the stir. Michael Jackson’s daughter plays Jesus in the upcoming flick and a new petition seeks to prevent distribution of the “blasphemous Hollywood film.” A Change.org petition claims Habit depicts “Jesus as a lesbian woman.”
“The film Habit stars Paris Jackson who plays the role of ‘lesbian Jesus.’ Distributors haven’t picked it up as of yet, so let’s please spread awareness and wake people up to the Christianophobic garbage that is spread nowadays, but is somehow accepted and praised by society,” the petition reads. As of Wednesday morning, over 270,000 people have signed it.
It’s not the first petition launched against Habit. One Million Moms demands the film not be released due to Jackson playing a “gender-bending Jesus Christ.”
“She will portray the religious figure wearing a traditional robe, tousled hair including a single accent braid, and a nose ring,” the petition reads. “This sacrilegious movie Habit mocks Christianity and ridicules people of faith.”
Over 71,000 people have signed the petition.
Promotional materials released earlier this year — including an image of Jackson as Jesus — say nothing about Jesus being portrayed as a gender-bending lesbian. According to a press release, the film follows Thorne, “a street smart, party girl with a Jesus fetish,” who “gets mixed up in a violent drug deal and finds a possible way out; by masquerading as a nun.”
Thorne reacted to the Change.org petition on her Instagram Story, writing, “Because Jesus is a woman… wowowowowowo.”
The petition comes after Jackson made headlines for candid revelations about her sexuality during the premiere episode of her Facebook Watch docuseries, Unfiltered: Paris Jackson and Gabriel Glenn.
Jackson, who started dating Glenn in 2018, said she “never thought I'd end up with a dude… thought I’d end up marrying a chick.”
“I’ve dated more women than men,” she shared during Tuesday’s episode. “The public only knows about three long-term relationships that I've been in and they've been with men. The public doesn't know about most of the relationships I've been in.”
Jackson added that she’s “dated more than just men and women. I've dated a man that had a vagina.”
“It has nothing to do with what's in your pants,” she explained. “It has nothing to do with your XY chromosome makeup…It's literally just like what are you like as a person?”
Jackson, who identifies as gay, said her famous father “caught on pretty quick” regarding her sexuality.
“I think he just felt the energy and he would like kind of tease me the same way that he would tease my brothers, like ‘Oh, you got yourself a girlfriend,’” she recalled. “I'm very lucky to have that, especially so young — I think I was like 8 or 9.”
Jackson has not commented on the Change.org petition.
